Raspberry Pi console setup

1. Raspberry Pi OS Install

• On separate computer, download and install Raspberry Pi Imager
• Connect SD card to computer
• Use RasPi Imager to install Raspberry Pi OS Lite to SD card
• Connect Raspberry Pi to keyboard and monitor. Insert SD card and power up
• Run through setup process, make sure to choose US keyboard
• Log in using username and password from setup process

2. Adjust console font

$ sudo dpkg-reconfigure console-setup

Recommend TerminusBold 11x22 for 1920x1080 display (rows 48; columns 174)

3. Get OS updates

$ sudo apt-get update
$ sudo apt-get upgrade

4. Raspberry Pi Software Configuration Tool

$ sudo raspi-config

• System Options > Hostname
• Locale > Timezone
• Locale > WLAN Country
• Advanced Options > Shutdown Behaviour
• For SSH Server: Interface Options > SSH

$ sudo shutdown -r now

5. Install Useful Utilities (as needed!)

$ sudo apt-get install mosh telnet telnetd tmux
$ sudo nano /etc/inetd.conf
